About LE Geospatial & Heritage
LE Geospatial & Heritage is an independent geospatial and heritage surveying organisation dedicated to the systematic survey, recording and long-term documentation of the historic and natural environment.
The landscape is constantly changing; Natural processes, agriculture, development and the passage of time continue to alter sites, structures and landscapes every year. Some changes are gradual. Others happen overnight. Once a feature has been lost, altered or buried, the opportunity to record it may also be lost.
The purpose of LE Geospatial & Heritage is simple; To create accurate, repeatable and evidence-based surveys that document places as they exist today, whilst preserving a permanent record for the future.
Every survey is designed around the location itself; No two sites present the same questions, and no single method can provide every answer. Depending upon the nature of the survey, this may include ground-based survey, aerial survey, photography, immersive recording, historic mapping, documentary research and other appropriate recording methods. The objective is always the same: to produce the most complete and reliable record that the site allows.
Surveying is only the beginning; Where appropriate, survey data is developed into detailed Site Records that bring together field observations, historical sources, mapping, imagery and supporting evidence to document both the site itself and the conclusions reached from the available evidence. These records are intended to provide a transparent account of how those conclusions have been reached, allowing the evidence to speak for itself.
Not every survey results in a published report; Many locations benefit from repeat surveys undertaken over months or years, creating a chronological archive of change. These surveys provide an ongoing record of the landscape, allowing changes to be identified, documented and compared over time. Where significant changes occur, that archive provides an evidence base from which future work can begin.
LE Geospatial & Heritage also welcomes enquiries from landowners, heritage organisations, local authorities, researchers, community groups and members of the public; Whether the requirement is the survey of a single structure, the repeat surveying of a changing landscape or the systematic recording of a site over time, every enquiry is considered individually. Surveys may be undertaken independently or to an agreed specification where consistent, repeatable field recording is required.
LE Geospatial & Heritage is not a commercial consultancy; It exists to improve the record of the landscapes around us through careful surveying, accurate documentation and evidence-led publication, whilst supporting the long-term preservation of information that might otherwise be lost.
